Willkommen! Bienvenue! Welcome!
Based in the hills of Northern Virginia is a proofreader/copy editor; an academic writing tutor available for undergraduate/graduate/Ph.D. students; a former adjunct professor of English; a technical writer/editor; and a U.S. Navy veteran.
I hold a Bachelor of General Studies in Communication (writing focus) with a minor in English from Eastern Connecticut State University (Eastern) and a Master of Fine Arts in Professional Writing from Western Connecticut State University.
For 12 years, I taught English Composition/College Writing, Advanced Composition; Digital Photography; Business and Technical Writing; Writing in Digital Environments; and First Year Instruction, both online and on-ground at a variety of universities and colleges in Connecticut such as the Coast Guard Academy, Manchester Community College, and concluded my adjunct teaching career at my alma mater, Eastern.
I freelanced as a proofreader/copy editor for three private advertising agencies, two Fortune 500 companies, and one higher education institution (University of California at San Francisco) since 2010. Using both professional (CMOS, NYT, AP, AMA) and company/university style guides, I proofread/copy edited fliers, white papers, reports, advertisements, multimedia presentations, PowerPoint presentations, radio scripts, briefs, web banner ads, and medical student clerkship evaluations. Since 2015, I have been proofreading for UBS Realty Investors remotely on a quarterly basis.
In addition, I served as a part time professional writing tutor for the University of Saint Joseph in Connecticut for three years. I provided academic writing support for students majoring in art history, nursing, social work, nutrition, family counseling, biology, education, English literature, business administration, and psychology. My tutoring included instruction on proper organization and structure, generating strong thesis statement, citation (APA, MLA, CMOS, and CSE), critical thinking, incorporating outside sources, grammar, and clarity. Serving as a writing associate for a social work summer course, I assisted students with drafting a precise thesis statement for a literature review of peer reviewed articles, and identifying research methodology and dimensions of design in articles using reading comprehension techniques (SQ3R method). I also served as a reader and evaluator for the university's writing portfolio graduation requirement, successfully assisting a visually-impaired student with receiving writing distinction on her diploma.
In 2013, I provided private tutoring services from May to September to a Ph.D. international student (from Ecuador) in the social work program at The University of Connecticut's School of Social Work. I assisted this student in proofreading, grammar, organization, clarity, and citation. Also as a writing tutor, I had the privilege of conducting in-person tutoring for male inmates incarcerated at Osborne and Cybulski correctional facilities for one semester in Suffield, Conn. under the Second Chance Pell Program, administered through Asnuntuck Community College, in 2017.
In the technical writing/editing field, I began my career in 2015, updating Ship Service Manuals for U.S. Navy VIRGINIA-class submarines at General Dynamics Electric Boat before serving as a training editor/writer (remote) for the Coast Guard Training Center in Petaluma, CA. I transitioned into the IT industry through remote contracts/FTE for Apple, Amazon Web Services, and The Walt Disney Company.
Currently, I work from home as a technical writer. I'm open to new opportunities (remote or hybrid) and contract or contract to hire in the DC/MD/VA area in the IT/cybersecurity fields.
